Movies (not) to Watch
21 Aug
Even though it’s still a breezy 35 degrees around here, even though we currently live with three people in our tiny apartment, even though we are all crazy busy working during the day, we still find time to watch a movie now and then. Here is my opinion on the movies I watched in the last two weeks.
My personal list from Bad to Great
Grizzly Man – do not watch (3/10)
Documentary based on authentic video material of grizzly bear activist Timothy Treadwell who was killed by one of these bears. The material is narrated by a German guy, who also interviews old friends and colleagues of mr. Treadwell. This would all have made into a very nice movie, wasn’t it for the total crazyness of Timmie, which makes you want to vomit.
Rio – not too bad (7/10)
Animation which portrays the life of a domesticated macaw who is transported back to his birth place Rio de Janeiro, where he gets into quite some adventures. I have to say, it’s quite fun to watch with all the colors and crazy birds, but it’s not my most favorite animation movie.
Shaun of the Dead – good (7/10)
Humorous horror movie about a few people who are fighting against (and running from) all the civilians in their town who, for a mysterious reason, all turned into zombies. With the same actors as the movie Paul, who are just greatly funny together. A humorous horror movie has never been funnier.
Paul – good (8/10)
Comedy about two British comic-book geeks who travel across the US and encounter an alien who is in danger and needs a ride. The movie is very funny indeed, but has some parts which are less gripping and actually made me walk away for a moment. But I’m glad I returned and finished watching, it was definitely worth it.
Transformers – good (8/10)
Science-fiction about sophisticated, technical, extraterrestrial robot clans. The heroic Autobots live on earth, disguised as cars and want to help the humans. The evil Decepticons want to destroy the earth. Besides a lot of fighting, there is also space for pretty and smart teenagers who become all part of the fight. Maybe a bit cheesy, but still a very fun movie to watch.
Pan’s Labyrinth – must see (10/10)
Spanish fantasy adventure movie about a girl who is sent to her horrendous sadistic army officer step father in the Spanish woods. The girl loves to read fairytales and when she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of a labyrinth, she immediately does anything they say in order to escape her new, sad life.
